STEENBRUGGE - BELGIAN ABBEY ALES

Steenbrugge is a range of abbey beers brewed by Palm Breweries – this means that a contribution is made to the abbey at Steenbrugge for every case of beer sold. This contribution goes towards the charitable work undertaken by the monks at the abbey.

Gruut – this is a blend of herbs and spices. Historically, gruut was used by some brewers in place of hops. The result is a more refined taste profile, with an absence of hop bitterness. Steenbrugge Abbey Ales are brewed with a secret gruut blend – making each one a particularly different taste experience.

Mild honey sweetness greets the nose, blending with mild spice aromas. Using gruut instead of hops accentuates the sweetness of this beer. However, the spice blend provides a delicious alternate counterbalance to the notes of caramel malt, banana and yeast.
