GOUDEN CAROLUS, BROUWERIJ HET ANKER

Situated in the beautiful town of Mechelen, North of Brussels, Brouwerij Het Anker is a family brewery now in its fifth generation.  Gouden Carolus refers to a golden coin originally minted in the time of Charlemagne, and bearing the imprint of the head of the famous emperor. The four beers from the Het Anker Brewery are named Gouden Carolus – superbly appropriate, as each one is a true treasure. Four beers, each with its own distinct personality, but all having the common characteristics of pure quality and delicious taste.

Gouden Carolus Classic | 8.5% a.b.v. | Belgium

Dark fruits, brown sugar, and a tingling mouthfeel deriving from a combination of the carbonation in the beer and the distinctive dark liquorice foundation in the taste of this beer all fuse to give a deliciously complex taste experience. Furthermore, these flavours blend with a complex mix of rich chocolate, spicy / oaky wood and an earthy, single malt whiskey / peaty character. Yet given all of this, the finish in this beer is simply delectable. No wonder this beer has been described as “the classic dark ale of Belgium” by acclaimed beer writer Michael Jackson (the Beer Hunter).
